I’ve
always been interested in preventative health through diet and am
passionate about how our food
choices can have a positive effect on both our physical
health
and
nutrition, as well as our environment and economy. When I began
working, I quickly found myself in need of
childcare for my young daughter.
After
countless interviews
and tours of childcare options, both in-homes and facilities,
I became shocked at what low quality food most children were being served.

In
fact many childcare
providers have “thrown their hands up” and ask
children
to bring lunch from home.
I believe we have lost an important social experience by not allowing our children to share meals together, particularly “hot” meals.
There is tremendous value in children smelling food cooking as lunch time approaches, then sitting down together at a table, sharing food, learning manners and engaging in conversation during meal time.

Of
course, if lunch is served
at school or daycare,
it is our duty as parents and educators to teach children what a healthy meal looks like.
I
understand that as parents we all want to make sure that our children
are getting enough to eat, but just because children don't gobble up
broccoli as fast as they do treats does not mean that we should stop
serving healthy fruits and vegetables. We just have to rethink how we
serve them! That is what we specialize in at Organic Fresh Fingers.
We
developed our Fresh
n’ Local program to use a combination of fresh, local,
natural
& organic ingredients, and we have a commitment not to use high
fructose corn syrup, artificial colors or flavors. We develop meals
that not only follow the National
School Lunch Program and USDA
Child
and Adult Food Program
guidelines for nutrition, but also use fresh, high quality
ingredients.
children
demonstrate to us all the
time that they will not only eat,
but thoroughly enjoy real, healthy food!
